Well, what we most feared has happened.  The Hidden Gems workshop has given thier first proposal to Congressman Polis.  It is a 128 page proposal.  I have included the link if you would like to look at it.  It will make you angry.  I hope that it makes you angry enough to act.  Call and write your representatives and let them know that you do not approve of this proposal. Polis thinks the majority of Colorado is in favor of it.  Also let Polis know how you feel about this proposal.  The link is www.scribd.com/doc/29443962/Hidden-Gems-Wilderness-plan

August 11,

We had a great meeting at Steve and Marilyn's home, thank you for the BBQ and hosting the meeting at your house.

We had about 10 attend the meeting.

Old business was again skipped.

New business was discussed, bills were discussed, and THANK YOU to Jo Hunter for writing an article in the Snow Scoop!!!

The trail clearing times were determined to meet @ 9 am at the 4-mile upper parking lot.  Please if you have a ATV or Motorbike, we would love to have you join us.  Also discussed was the fundraisers again, float for potato days, this is going to happen.  It is the 100 year anniversary, so we are trying to get old, middle and new.  If you would like to help or participate we could use you!!!  This is great exposure for our club and the sport!!  We will be doing a fundraiser/dance/dinner this fall, more details to come.  We also discussed the golf tournament for the spring.

Hidden Gems Wilderness is attempting to close down a major area in the White River National Forest.  It includes Thompson Creek (4 mile)/Marion Trail heads, Basalt Mountain, and then the Flattops from I-70 North.  This is MAJOR, and will affect all outdoorsmen/women usage.  There is a meeting 8-17-09 in Thomasville at the Fire house, please join us we need NUMBERS.  If you have any questions please contact Sean @ 379-6927.

Here is what is proposed http://www.whiteriverwild.org/p-roaring-fork-14.html

Here is what we can start doing ASAP to help save our riding areas.
Looking for help in any form - against The Hidden Gems organization in COLORADO.
This organization has mass momentum because they went under radar even using Senator Salazar and a ridiculous amount of money to push their campaign. I'm sure you have heard of their coalition and they have a website with proposed area to which they want to take over as "wilderness" prohibiting Hunters, Anglers, ATV , Snowmobile, dirtbike and mountain bikers to use this area. WE are avid outdoorsmen and women and they are having meetings in Basalt Colorado as they are trying to take that mountain first. The next meeting is in Emma at the firehouse on monday the 17th.
their website is http://www.whiteriverwild.org/white-...nal-forest.php for the proposed land they want to take . If they get Basalt Mountain what's going to stop them from getting what ever they want.

PLEASE HELP US get the word out to fight together for our rights for this land use.

ADDITIONALLY
Subject: WILDERNESS ALERT

Good evening all,

As many of you already know Congressman John Salazar is sponsoring a Wilderness Bill in this legislative session. The bill is called the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act of 2009. The bill has not been introduced yet but Congressman Salazar has it on his website http://www.house.gov/salazar/sjmw.shtml and is asking for comments by August 16, 2009. As I am sure you can figure out CSA does not support this proposal. TrailsWork Consulting has helped me prepare a position paper for CSA that has key reasons as to why. This position paper is attached to this email. I encourage each one of you to read this and identify reasons that strike a chord with you and prepare an appropriate comment to share with the Congressman's office. For those of you living in the Congressman's District (District 3) I suggest you contact one of his regional offices with your comments. You can get contact information on www.coloradosledcity.com, click on Land Use Issues, click on Congress and then on John Salazar's name. It is best to send your comments in writing, so please mail or fax or email your comments. For those of you not living in the Congressman's District email your comments to john.whitney@mail.house.gov. Please don't sit on the fence on this one!
